People are getting into muscle workouts to be able to reach their goal of a well toned body. Some go to the gym and others have weights in their household to exercise their muscles. But there have been incidents that some people build muscles with the use of dangerous dosages of steroids. Some people don't quite understand the limits of their muscles and take them for granted. Muscle anatomy could help clarify some common misconceptions of muscles.
Muscle anatomy (under human anatomy) is the study that focuses on the structure of different human muscles. To give more understanding on muscles, descriptions of different muscles will be expounded. Remember, anatomy concerns the structure of different parts of the body while physiology concerns the different functions of the various body parts.
There are many types of muscles in your body which all contain muscle fiber. They can be either type I or type II. Muscles in your body are also classified to be voluntary or involuntary. The types of muscles are cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and skeletal muscle. The muscles function by contracting and relaxing.
The cardiac muscles can be found in the heart. They are composed of smooth muscles expand and contract automatically. That is why they are called involuntary muscles, since it doesn't need your voluntary command to function. The heart is an integral part of the human body since it is in charge of circulating blood to all the other organ systems in your body. The heart is like the engine of the car.
The skeletal muscles are attached to bones. These muscles help you move your body parts in variety of ways by is contracting. The muscles on your arms have striated muscles which also help in you body's daily functions. Unlike the heart muscles, the muscles on the bones are involuntary muscles. These muscles function on your command.
For example, biceps and triceps are skeletal muscles that flex and contract. Contraction is used to exert force as in carrying a weight while the flexing is used to bend the joint. The triceps is an extensor while the biceps is flex.
All of these muscles contractions are controlled by the nervous system wherein commands are sent to the muscle system from the brain. The heart however functions by an autonomic branch of the nervous system, and these contractions are moderated.
Illustrations of the muscles which can be found in muscles anatomy books, or Internet references can help you understand the structures of the muscles better. Did you know the brain is a muscle too? Strength doesn't just come from your body, but it also is in your head. Now that you know more about muscles, use this knowledge and make your power.
